Fire Safety Workshop at Blakenhale School

Between 19th and 22nd March 2002, the children and staff at Blakenhale Junior School, Homestead Road, Sheldon were treated to a Fire Safety Workshop run by members of the Hay Mills CR section and Sheldon Firefighters
Led by Station Commander Evans, the children were taught the importance of smoke alarms, Fire Safety Plans, Stop, Drop and Roll and allowed to experience the disorientating effect of smoke in Smokey Joe's Tent.

Following on from the educational side, all classes were then walked down to the fire station about 600 metres away, where they were able to see a display of firefighting techniques involving ladders, hose and lots of water!
Some of the children even got the chance to squirt the hosereel!

The response from all classes involved was brilliant and we had a great time reading the letters they sent us after the event. Some are captured below.

If your school is local to us and would benefit from a similar event, contact Station Commander Pete Smith on 0121-783-5254 .
